Hair update & Washday catch up

Hi Lovelies How you all doing? Yep i went off from my usual blogging routine but now i m back. Had an interesting hair meetup turnout was not as expected as this was a first event of its kind in Harare, am sure next one will be way better. Thank you to all the ladies who managed to attend and help out you are all stars.

THE HAIRMEET

I have been enjoying my hair especially the new growth, its amazing soooo amazing, its about 3 and 1/2 inches and i have decided to stretch to about 18 or 20 weeks post because i have not suffered any breakage and i am 16 weeks post relaxer. Am sure will relax early into the new year and be able to also set my 2015 healthy hair goals and length goals.I am full Arm pit length now and was hoping to be Bra Strap Length by December 2014 but i am now in a protective style to help me stretch for longer so will only give an update and length check in January after my relaxer touch up. Started taking hair vitamins have tried Manetabolism and Maxi hair but i think Manetabolism is better than Maxi Hair will do a separate post on my hair vitamins and give a detailed review. The past 2 washdays have been amazing actually 3 i did a midweek cowash too. Hadnt been cowashing of late i have thought of bringing it back into my regimen. My washday routine has been the same except the products i used to deep condition my hair with. The first weekend washday was

The Wash Day Experience

Protein ORS Hair Mayonnaise and the second was moisture Queen Helene Cholesterol, the third was a balance of the two protein deep conditioning ORS Replenishing conditioner followed by a moisturizing deep conditioning treatment Queen Helene cholesterol. I have been using heat when i deep condition this has helped maintain very soft new growth and stronger hair. The main thing that i have been focusing on is keeping the line of demarcation (where the new growth meets the old relaxed hair) moisturized to prevent breakage. i have been doing my daily scalp massages with my oil mix of Coconut oil, Castor oil, Olive oil and a few drops of Rosemary and peppermint essential oils. Moisturizing with Scurl no drip for the growth, Elasta QP Olive oil and Mango Butter or ORS moisturizing hair Lotion on days my hair felt a bit dry and sealing daily with Olive oil or hot six oil and castor oil on my ends. Will put pictures of the products i have been using and will explain in detail on my products review page of what these products do and how i use them on my healthy hair journey. Am now in a protective style thick cornrows and loving them.

Please kindly share how you manage your hair when stretching

Box braids out after 5 weeks!

Hi Lovelies

Yes i have not been updating my blog and status of my hair whilst in braids, and to say this time around i have been very busy and at the same time now doing the last preparations for the Healthy Hair Experience meet up.

Yes the box braids are out just after five weeks and i am sure the growth i have had this time around has been due to the hair vitamins i have started taking. I have been taking Manetabolism Hair Vitamins since the end of October and am to say i did gain just over an inch of growth thats why i had to remove my braids before my scheduled six weeks. I have also upped my water intake and been very consistent too, I have heard stories of skin breakouts with taking high doses of Biotin so i am trying to avoid all of that.

My take down process was quite simple and i did it over two days. I wanted to make sure i did not suffer a lot of breakage but i did notice more shedding than i usually have after i take my braids out at 8 weeks.

I cut the box braids a little long closer to the ends to ensure I didn’t chop my hair off!
Then took a small section, wet it, and put conditioner on it and gently comb the braids out.I used my cheap   conditioner and started finger detangling. I was very patient this time around . Though it still took me 2 days to take them down.

 Shed hair

WASH ROUTINE: After my hair was free, I completed  my usual hair regimen. I pre-pooed with Coconut oil then I shampood it with Creme of Nature Sulphate free Shampoo since my hair had been braided for so long, I wanted to get rid of all of the hair product build up. Then, I deep conditioned my hair with ORS Replenishing Conditioner  and started the detangling process using a wide tooth shower comb. I didn’t realize how matted my hair had gotten in the braids especially at the back. It took me almost an hour to get all of the knots out! It was mostly knotted at the root where each braid started. It was just frustrating, but I didn’t want to pull my hair out while detangling, so I was really carefull, but then thats when i noticed i wasnt having breakage at all it was mostly shed hair but i still feel it was a lot. I then air dried and applied the Giovanni direct leave in weightless moisture conditioner first time trying it out and i loved it.

went to bed feeling really tired i just put on my satin scarf and next morning continued with my moisturizing and sealing process i used Elasta QP Olive Oil and Mango Butter to moisturize and then used my oil mix to seal. Planning on doing a proper protein treatment this weekend will keep u updated.

Overall i think i m happy with this last protective style i retained some length yippeeeeee am getting there

Hair update and Protective style box braids

Hi Beauties

I have been really busy of late and should i also say feeling lazy to blog. Yeah am blaming it on the weather it is summer now and one of those lazy hot months.

What have we been up to in the past couple of weeks, my hair and i that is. Well i have been having the most simplest wash days, moisturizing and sealing has been amazing i m in and out of the bathroom in a few minutes compared to when i began my healthy hair journey. It was a mission it would take me close to an hour moisturizing and sealing only.
Of late my hair has been very behaved no breakage, no tangles, shedding very minimal and overall it feels and looks healthy i m impressed with my hair for now and i am hoping to keep it that way for a very long time to come. i did a Henna treatment 2 weeks ago and yes i am getting to like the henna treatment more i think i am adding it to my staples list.
  • Firstly i mixed my powders Henna , Amla and Brahmi powder
  • I went on to add 1 tablespoon of honey a teaspoon of lemon juice and a tablespoon of olive oil.
  • then left it for about 4 hours
  • applied the henna mixture and let it sit in my hair for one hour and rinsed out
  • i decided to do a remoisturizing deep conditioning treatment as my hair felt a bit dry and hard
  • i d'cd for about 30 mins with heat using Elasta QP DPR-11+ deep penetrating remoisturizing conditioner.
  • rinsed it out then applied my leave in Cantu shea butter leave in conditioner and air dried hair in a bun
  • i let my hair loose for the whole week felt good and airy.

The Wash Day Experience
I am now in box braids for my protective style got them installed yesterday thinking i will keep them in for 6-8 weeks at least will remove them closer to my relaxer day. I will relax at 16 weeks post which is end of December.

For my braids regimen:

  • For shampooing i will use a dry cleansing shampoo like witch hazel and sulphate free shampoo and will wash after every 2 weeks concentrating on my scalp.
  • i will deep condition as usual using my ORS Replenishing conditioner or aphogee 2 min.
  • spray leave in conditioners
  • Castor oil and coconut oil for my scalp hair line and nape at least 3 times a week
  • Spray a water based moisturizer (African Pride braid spray)
  • lightly seal braids with Jojoba oil or grapeseed oil
  • sleep with a satin scarf.
till next update love you alls.

Washday still a breeze @ 2 weeks post relaxer

Hi all

i am enjoying these very simple wash days i hope this will continue into my stretch which will be 16 weeks maximum this time, i think i get carried away and cry later but hey thats part of my healthy hair journey all these experiences i get to share with you. Anyway i did another basic washday over the weekend and to say my hair feels great, i too am beginning to get back to being myself and feeling great.

This is how my washday went:
1. Coconut oil prepoo overnight.
2. shampooed with ORS Creamy Aloe shampoo once. I didnt have a lot of build up
3. Deep conditioned with ORS Replenishing Conditioner mixed with Olive oil and 5 drops of peppermint oil and eucalyptus oil. deep conditioned with steam for 30 minutes loved that tingling sensation from the essential oils.
4. After rinse out i did an ACV (apple cider vinegar) rinse. i let my hair airdry with the ACV in.
5. I applied my leave in conditioner Cantu Shea butter leave in conditioning repair cream then let my hair completely dry in a loose bun.
6. Before bed i moisturized and sealed using ORS incredibly rich oil moisturizing hair lotion and sealed with 100% raw shea butter and put some wild growth oil on my scalp.

7. The next morning my hair was feather light, bouncy and healthy looking.

Then the most dramatic thing happened later that day i came across my trimming scissors which i had put away for my December trim and quickly got to snipping away split ends and some of my relaxed ends. I think i took off just over an inch but i m loving the healthy thicker look my hair has so i am okay with the lost hair.

Thats it for my washday and hair experience at two weeks post. Am now thinking of a long term protective style for the next 6 weeks. Loving my texlaxed texture.

Washday Memoirs shortest and basic washday @ 1 week post

Hie all

I haven't been feeling well for the past week and a half and am still recovering from the trauma and pain i went through but most of all i thank God almighty for seeing me through this difficult time, Anyway let me get to my washday at one week post.

It was one of the most basic washday if not first i have ever done since i began my hair journey. I was really not in the mood, i was tired and feeling week.
I had not done a prepoo treatment and since i had relaxed my hair it was very easy to manage. I cowashed using ORS Curls unleashed moisturizing conditioner reason being my hair was beginning to feel a little dry. after my cowash i then did an Aphogee keratin 2 minute reconstructor.
I covered my hair with a heat processing cap for 2 minutes then i rinsed it out and followed up with the balancing moisturizer that i kept in for another 2 minutes then rinsed it out.

I then t shirt dried my hair for ten minutes then i sprayed my leave in conditioner the Aphogee keratin and green tea restructurizer and left my hair to dry in a messy bun Detangling was such a breeze my hair has fewer tangles since the relaxer touch up. I later moisturized my hair with ORS moisturizing hair lotion and sealed with 100% raw shea butter. I have gone back to using ORS moisturizing lotion as my daily moisturizer because my hair is thicker and the lighter moisturizing creams dont seem to be doing anything for my hair at the moment. The reason i stopped using the ORS moisturizer was because it used to weigh my hair down a lot but now that i am loving my thick mane it needs a thicker creamy moisturizer.

My wash day went smoothly as i wanted to get some rest. It was hassle free and very relaxing too. I hope to maintain these very simple washdays for the next 6 weeks. Hope to catch up with you all soonest. Till my next post take care.

How was your washday experience:

Miss you all

Relaxer update emergency texlax no.3 @20 weeks post

Hello Lovelies

couldnt wait to do this update as much as i could nt wait to texlax. Hope you are all good, Taking care of those tresses and giving them tonnes of TLC.

Yes i texlaxed 2 weeks before my scheduled relaxer date. It was Wednesday evening that i decided to detangle my before my inversion when to my surprise i thought i saw three quarters of my hair on my comb. I nearly fainted and thought to myself i will not lose all this hair after so much hard work it was more worries for my length because during my hair journey i have not been as good with length retention at all. So thats when it hit me decision time i am going to relax on Saturday and since i was going to be 20 weeks post i felt my stretch was up and done.

I left work as soon as clock hit 1pm went to pick up hubby from his meeting and in anticipation of getting home to whip up my hair buffet hubby hits me with one. "Lets do lunch sweety " i was just in shock my heart was racing not for the lunch part but my hair needed my attention immediately. I did lunch for 3 whole long hours then home got there and put my bags down, straight to the bathroom and i started preping for my touch up.

This is how it went
As always :
1. Put Extra Virgin Olive oil on the ends of my hair avoiding the roots and detangled from ends to new growth
2. Mixed my relaxer i used the ORS Olive Oil No Lye relaxer kit Normal Strength.
3.got my deep conditioners ready and my peppermint oil close by so as my leave in conditioner and heat protectant serum.
4.steaming cap and flat iron ready too
5. Sectioned hair into 4 parts then i applied the relaxer from back to the front
6 it took me just under 10 minutes to smooth out my growth for this process because my growth was too thick this time around
7. Rinsed off relaxer and shampooed with ORS creamy aloe neutralizing shampoo 4 times to make sure the relaxer was all out
8. i then mixed my ORS replenishing conditioner and a little bit of ORS olive oil deep masque conditioner added 5 drops of peppermint oil then massaged my scalp and my hair with the mixture woooow the peppermint oil felt so great on my scalp that lovely tingling feeling.
9. I sat under my heat cap for 20 minutes then let my hair cool for another 5 minutes and finally rinsed out the conditioners i immediately felt that my strands had bounced back to life they felt strong and my head felt heavier with hair lol.
10. t shirt dried for 15 minutes then sprayed my aphogee keratin and green tea restructurizer then continued to air dry for another hour.
11. i put on my ORS heat protection serum to get ready for the flat ironing session which i really felt i didnt want to do but since i didnt blow dry my hair i felt it was okay
12. the detangling process brought joy to my heart as there was little breakage in my hair from a few knots since i didnt put a comb in for the relaxer process and the deep conditioning process, i wanted very low manipulation as i wanted to be very careful.

All in all i should fairly say texlax number 3 went very well i am happy with the results.
In a previous post i had mentioned i would stretch for 16 weeks at a time and i think i should stick to that i can manage my textures better to that point, so 16 weeks it is.
Relaxer day images to follow below :

Oh and congratulation to Stella of http://ghlonghair.blogspot.com for the successful hair meetup she hosted in Ghana glad you ladies had fun and am sure learnt a lot to include on your healthy hair journeys

A Henna, Brahmi powder, Amla(Ayurverda) Washday

Hello...

Hope you all had a great weekend and spent time with family and friends. I was so jealous of my brother and his family, my niece and her hubby as they enjoyed a well deserved bank holiday in the UK eating away and drinking themselves to happy land which is good though. I on the other hand was too anxious to get to washday to do my henna treatment (AYURVEDA ) to name it since the first part was all Henna, Brahmi, Amla and olive oil would have loved to add some Neem too. The mixture did well to my hair i loved the results i got from the treatment. So jealous i might have been but i did something good to my hair.

So Saturday night was prep day for the treatments, Firstly i mixed my ingredients the measurements were just estimating how much powder i thought i would need for my hair since its become so thick, i think its got to do with the coconut oil that i have been alternating with the JBCO. I added another ingredient to the mixture which was green tea instead of the usual water which is used to mix the powders to make the paste. So i mixed all the ingredients together though the tea was still a bit on the warm side. The Extra Virgin Olive oil was to help with easy application since the powders are a bit difficult to put on the hair and it also conditioned my hair. I left the mixture in the bowl overnight as i prepood with a little warm extra virgin coconut oil.

Next morning was washday and yes i was very excited.
  1. Shampooed with ORS Creamy Aloe shampoo twice.
  2. t-shirt dried then applied the Ayurvedic treatment.
  3. had it on for about 1 hour 30 minutes
  4. rinsed it out then did a moisture dc with Beautiful textures rapid repair deep conditioner
  5. used steam cap for 30 minutes then rinsed out
  6. t shirt dried again then applied my Aphogee Keratin and Green tea Restructurizer.
  7. left hair to airdry in a loose pony tail
  8. Moisturized and sealed later before bed with Cantu Shea butter leave in conditioning repair cream and Evco
Yes the process did get frustrating when it came to the messy application then the rinse out of the powders wow i was just weak. Overall i manged to wash all the mixture out and my thick growth didnt help the situation either being 19 weeks post relaxer, and still craving to put some creamy crack on my hair i cant wait. My hair felt stronger and even looked healthier before the treatment and amazingly felt soft before my moisture deep condition. And i did notice it was darker in colour but had a few red streaks of hair not sure if the natural henna did that. I will try and do this treatment at least once a month from now on.
How was your washday experience please share:

More to come as i start my Inversion today. One inch am coming to get you.

Relaxer count down!

Hey Beauties

Its been a while since i updated you all on how my hair journey is going. Well i am hanging in there and enjoying 3 inches of natural hair and am 18 weeks post mmmmm.... no am not going to BC or transition either.

So lets begin, theres a lot of catching up to do. After my henna treat which i still love i got cornrows done for three full weeks and yes i was getting impatient i was missing my hair so much. I am amazed at how much length i have retained in the past four months. Me thinks am doing something right finally. I have minimum breakage , less shedding and stronger thicker hair.

I should say this stretch has been way better than my previous stretches and now i am confident to say i will always manage my stretches beyond 16 weeks comfortably. What have i been doing to achieve so much growth and retain m length? I have my wonder miracle products by my side always since i have been doing cornrows its my African Pride Braid spray original regular formula for moisturizing my hair, then Extra Virgin Coconut oil, Jamaican Black castor oil and raw shea butter mixed together. This mixture is my scalp base and my sealant not to heavy at all hair is neatly done in cornrows.
I washed and Deep conditioned my hair weekly as always but mostly cowashed to keep moisture levels high since the new growth can become very dry deep into a stretch.

Otherwise i cant wait for my 3rd texlax #excited , i really want to see my true length but ofcourse iit will not be that lengthy reason being i am texlaxing and not doing a bone straight relaxer. 3 weeks to go and i am going to slap some of that relaxer cream onto my thick new growth. As of now i have a wig on and 8 braids underneath the wig. Sunday washday i will do another henna treatment with Brahmi powder and Amla Powder this time i will have pics of how to mix the powders and how to apply the mixture. Will get another set of cornrows for the next 2 weeks so at to remove them in time for my protein treatment i preparation for the Relaxer touch up till then laters.

Washday Memoirs with a Henna treat

hey beauties

hope you all had a lovely weekend. I had one busy hectic one and it being a very important weekend to me my dads 6th memorial since he was promoted to Glory six years ago, I had to make a plan to make sure i was spending the day with my family and celebrating his life. At the same time i wanted to do a Henna treatment and have waited so long to do one.

Eventually i made a plan Saturday night was my usual prepoo and prep for washday routine.
- Coconut oil prepoo : warmed up 2 tablespoons of EVCO then did a scalp massage for 3 to 5 minutes it was the last day of the inversion method so did my 4 minutes inverted then soon after i wore my shower cap, satin scarf and satin bonnet on top.
- prepared the Henna mixture i added a tablespoon of Jamaican Black Castor oil, a tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and 1 egg york and 100ml of green tea. Mixed the ingredients till it formed a smooth paste and let it stand overnight
- Next morning i rinsed out the coconut oil with luke warm water then shampoo using a sulphate free shampoo the ORS Invigorating sulphate free shampoo with Rosemary and mint
-i did a quick green tea rinse i am trying to minimize a lot of shedding like i experienced in my last stretch.
-I went on to apply the henna in sections then when my whole head was covered i put some cling wrap on the a shower cap my satin scarf and the wig to prepare for dads Memorial.
The drive to the farm was 1 and half hours and then the service took another 2 - 3 hours so had the henna on for just over 4 hours and just before lunch i rinsed it out and put some moisturizing conditioner after 6 thorough rinses.
-I used the Beautiful textures Rapid Repair conditioner for another 2 hours as i wanted to get home and finish doing my hair there.
-i later went on to rinse the conditioner out and t shirt dried to take out all the excess water then i air dried and before bed time as tired as i was detangled my hair as the knots are becoming crazy by the day deeper into my stretch, put in my usual leave ins

Overall i enjoyed the Henna experience and will surely try to do one Henna treat every month. My hair feels stronger and looks darker. Washday wasnt exactly a breeze as last weekends because of the ups and downs i had to do. I am happy i got to pamper my hair at the same time i was remembering my dad on this special day MHSRIP.

Have a great day all
