My updated Texlaxed Hair Regimen

Heyyy

Now that my hair texture has really changed from the bone straight relaxer type i have decided to change my regimen to suit my new texlaxed type hair and am loving how healthy its become. This regimen also helps manage my hair during the new growth stage now that i stretch my relaxers far apart.

Shampoo
·         Shampoo once a week, on either Wednesday or Thursday
·         Alternate between Tresemme Naturals nourishing moisture; ORS HaiRepair  Sulphate free shampoo and ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo
·         Use applicator bottle; or spray bottle makes cleaning hair easier.
·         Let shampoo sit on hair for a while before washing out. Massage product in scalp to remove dirt & build up.

Co-wash
·         Co-wash once a week, or as needed with cheap conditioner mixed with oils, carrier and essential. Add glycerin if needed.
·         More than likely will use Tresemme Nourishing Moisture Shampoo conditioner
·         As with shampoo, use in applicator bottle/ spray bottle It makes getting to your roots easier.
*Right now, I have gotten into co-washing before I shampoo so that my hair still has moisture and is not totally stripped from the shampooing process. It works pretty well.

Deep Condition
Deep condition 2x a week (if possible) but usually 1x
·         Typically, I use Organic Root Stimulator Replenishing Conditioner mixed with a teaspoon of castor oil(JBCO) and I deep condition overnight
·         I plan to incorporate deep conditioning with coconut oil more overnight to strengthen hair during the washing process.
·         Moisture conditioner: 2x a month
·         Mix up favorite moisturizing conditioners, along with avocado oil, coconut oil, and olive oil
·         Heavy Protein: Once a month. ORS Hair Mayonnaise
·         Mix protein conditioners, along with coconut oil.
·         Light protein: Once a month
·         ApHogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor

Moisturize
·         Moisturize and seal every night on dry/air dried hair Elasta QP Olive oil and Mango butter Moisturizer or ORS HaiRepair Anti-Breakage crème.
·         Use rich oils to seal in water and do light scalp massage, Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO), Hot six oil, Wild growth hair oil
On top, use shea butter mix.
·         Seal in butter mix with coconut or olive oil.
·         Detangle
·         If bunning, do 3-4 braids.
·         If wearing wig, at least 10-12 braids to lay hair flat.
·         If braid out, do medium sized braids.
·         Wear satin bonnet/scarf every night.

HAIR UPDATE – How i am managing my new growth at 16 weeks post relaxer

I would like to share certain challenges i face on my hair journey with my readers and, These are challenges you might face as well especially if you intend to stretch your relaxer like I do. Yes i know at some point i had decided to transition but i reversed my decision due to the amount of breakage i was facing. I am sure with time i will but for now i am comfortable with stretching my relaxers
I now texlax my hair every 5 months (20 weeks). Which i am comfortable with will try and stretch to 6 months (24 weeks)  after my next touch up. I am currently 16 weeks post relaxer ( which simply means the last time I texlaxed my hair was 16 weeks ago). 4 months. Usually I start wearing conrows under my wigs from 10 weeks post
I have about 2 inches of natural hair at the moment so I have a mini fro beneath my texlaxed hair. When it comes to managing the new growth there are some challenges that come with handling lots of new growth.

***What is Texlaxing?
"Texlaxed" hair is a term that was coined in the Internet hair world to describe a hair texture that falls between texturized curls and chemically relaxed, straight hair. "Texlaxing" is the intentional underprocessing of hair with a relaxer chemical, and is typically done to create volume, body, and texture in relaxed hair. Instead of processing my hair bone straight I purposely underprocess my hair to leave some texture which is called 'texlaxing'. N.B Texlaxing is done with a relaxer, there's no boxed kit called a 'texlaxer'.

 CHALLENGES OF STRETCHING MY RELAXER
A) MANAGING TWO TEXTURES
When you have a lot of new growth beneath your relaxed hair, it is important to take care of both textures to reduce the risk of breakage.
I keep both my natural new growth and my relaxed hair moisturized all the time. However I have to be extremely gentle when handling hair with this much new growth. This is because the line of demarcation (where the relaxed hair meets the natural new growth) is very delicate and will break easily if handled roughly.
i also notice that their new growth does feel dry. The only way to overcome this is to give it what it needs, moisture. I use African Pride braid spray or S curl no drip curl activator moisturizer to keep my new growth soft and moisturised.
B) MORE TIME & MORE WORK
I find that when I have a lot of new growth, my hair tangles and forms knots easily. The more new growth I have, the more times I have to detangle during the week. And because I have to be very gentle (because of the weakness at the line of demarcation) it takes me longer to detangle, moisturise and seal my hair.
I usually get away with detangling my hair one or twice a week but when I have a lot of new growth like I currently do, I have to detangle my hair at least 3 times a week.
The fact is the more new growth I get, the more time I have to invest in keeping both textures happy.

3) SHRINKAGE
All that lovely new growth means that my hair is higher/taller at the root (if that makes any sense). This makes it look slight shorter.

4) THINNER LOOKING HAIR ESPECIALLY ENDS
Because of the fro at the roots of my hair, the relaxed part of my hair look thinner than it actually is. I am not a fan of this but it is only temporary.
I don’t want to give the impression that natural new growth is a problem.  That IS NOT the message, but it is that when you have a lot of new growth you have to amend your regimen slightly so that you take care of both textures.
The main reason why I still wear wigs is to help me stretch my relaxer. The wigs give me a mini holiday from my hair. Rather than risk neglecting my hair, wigs helps me to cut back on the amount of time I spend detangling.

A hair journey can be hard work sometimes but it is a positive thing. I compare it to trying to exercise, eat right and stay healthy, it’s not easy but it has its benefits.
I hope this post will encourage you to keep trying despite the challenges.

my hair improving July to November 2013

This was in July after a protein treatment. i used the Aphogee Keratin 2 minute reconstructor as my light protein. I just air dried my hair and blow dried on low cool setting. after an hour i moisturized and sealed with my staple Elasta QP Olive oil and Mango butter and i sealed with my grapeseed oil. Started to see some results having thicker hair yeeeyyy!

I had no idea growth could be so rapid when you implement good hair habits. I am one to confess working around a healthy hair regimen sure brings pleasing results. I am happy with the state of my hair and am sure this hair affair is on the right track. We are on our way to BSL yeah baby!!!!

I was so excited to try out the invigorating sulphate free shampoo on my wash day. It was love at first lather! My scalp felt so cool and refreshed and not in an uncomfortable way . I followed the instructions on the bottles to the letter lol. My hair felt so moisturized and my hair was tangle free. I am in love with the aroma of this shampoo, the Rosemary fragrance is so soothing as I wash my hair. I immediately felt the difference in my hairs texture soft and moisturized wow. I highly recommend this product. I would give ten stars if I had the option to do so.but well its a 5 for me.

This is my new staple deep conditioner! I will switch between the mayo and replenishing conditioner every now and then. I have transitioning 4C hair and it worked well on my new growth. My hair LOVEs this product!

ORS HaiRepair Anti- Breakage Creme
I give the Hairepair anti-breakage creme 5 stars. This product is absolutely wonderful and great. It moisturized my hair, makes it easy to manage especially when I have new growth and smells sooo good. Great job ORS with all your products especially the Hairepair line for us girls who need a little something more to get back and maintain healthy hair
Today I used if for the first time and I am very pleased. I believe this product will cure my dryness and breakage and keep my hair moisturized during this period i am transitioning. The ingredients are great, I noticed it had no mineral oil or paraffin, and no petrolatum. These two products are not beneficial to hair at all.

ORS HaiRepair Vital oils for hair scalp
I fell in LOVE with this oil! I can't live without it! lol It's a great combination of good oils like grapeseed oil and sweet almond oil. My hair feels completely moisturized after using it. And oh my God, the smell is sure the best thing! So delicious! I can still smell it the next day.
Its a Nice, light oil. Smells AWESOME! Love the type of bottle that's its in. I used this on my scalp on wash day and sealed with it after moisturizing my hair i couldnt resist it. Will be alternating this oil with my staple sealant during the week.

I will use the ORS olive oil hair mask on my next washday and share my reviews on it
